Grey Heron

Every time I see the solitary grey heron that visits the paddock in front of my studio windows, I feel like I have been given a great gift. Is there a more elegant and graceful bird?

I agree - and at the same time they so obviously are linked to the ancient world of the dinosaurs (esp of course pteradactyls) in their flight and their call.

A pair of white faced herons are nesting in the Truby King Reserve. This area is a special place for birds and I never tire of the wonderful variety of sea birds around the Karitane-Waikouaiti estuary. We sometimes get migrating Godwits from Siberia! Very sweet little grey birds.
